Cancer treatment remains one of the most complex challenges for modern healthcare systems. Although radiotherapy continues to play a central role in the treatment of more than half of cancer patients, increasing clinical complexity and expanding biological knowledge are driving the need for new therapeutic paradigms. Advanced radiation delivery techniques, innovative diagnostic tools, new radiopharmaceuticals, and radiotracers are essential to further improve the precision of cancer treatment, reduce toxicity, and enable truly personalized cancer care.
In this evolving landscape, Spoke 1 – Advanced Radiotherapy and Diagnostics in Oncology of the Tuscan Healthcare Ecosystem has promoted extensive multidisciplinary collaboration between Tuscan research centers, hospitals, and technology developers to bridge the gap between the laboratory and the clinic, while also enabling significant progress toward technological maturity and industry involvement.
The workshop Advanced Radiotherapy and Diagnostics in Oncology (to be held at the CNR – Pisa Research Area on March 12 and 13 at the Auditorium, Building A, Via Giuseppe Moruzzi 1) is designed as a platform to explore future developments stimulated by this broad regional collaboration. Bringing together physicists, biologists, engineers, physicians, and industrial partners, the event highlights the value of integrated research models in promoting and translating emerging oncology technologies into practice.
