WHO launches new database to support European countries in managing health data

The tool, called Health Information Systems Governance (HISGOV), was developed with the co-financing of the European Union and provides around 70 indicators to offer a structured vision of how health data is collected, managed and used.

The database is organized into several key areas that reflect the essential elements of a solid information system: from national strategies for digital health to data governance models, up to the diffusion of electronic health records, interoperability and the effective use of information in decision-making processes. Particular attention is also paid to the obstacles still present, such as difficulties in implementing digital technologies and adopting advanced analysis tools, including big data.

Among the operational features of the platform there are synthesis and visualization tools that facilitate comparisons between countries. Coded tables and thematic maps make it possible to quickly identify differences, progress and critical areas within the European Region.
