University of Florence, Rector Petrucci: “The University must restore social value”

From artificial intelligence to the green transition, from the student housing crisis to the role of universities in society: for Alessandra Petrucci, public universities must shape critical minds and adapt to change, but without giving in to the logic of quantity. Quality is defended through digital and personalized teaching, micro-credentials, and active training. “Florence is a powerful brand, but it must be used strategically,” she says, highlighting the university’s ability to attract European funds and lead PNRR projects such as Age-It and THE. The alliance with the local area is also central to ensuring opportunities and cohesion. And she has no doubts about the principle that must be upheld: “The right to education and autonomy, as enshrined in the Constitution.”
